Educational Programs, Workshops, Seminars, New Idea Session, and Small Group Discussions
Identification and localization of pathology or abnormality on radiographic images is important for diagnosis and treatment planning in dentistry. Understanding dental student, postgraduate resident and experienced practitioner visual search methodologies is critical to development of novices into expert practitioners. How can dental education programs utilize eye-tracking technology to improve image-reading efficiency of their students and residents? Participants will describe how eye-tracking technology works, identify potential applications of eye-tracking technology in dental education and interpret data produced by an eye-tracking system. This novel use of the eye-tracker was developed across dental and medical disciplines and integrates educational psychology and radiology.
