We hear stories about students who do not feel welcome and who do not meet culturally acceptable norms whether in the classroom or the clinic. Awareness from the staff and faculty is the first step in addressing cultural competencies. The second is collaborating across roles and departments to create strategies that integrate internationally and culturally diverse students into the school whether inside the classroom, clinic or through campus programming. This session focuses on discussing real issues that have arisen around cultural competencies and attendees will collaborate with one another to come up with strategies and solutions for these issues.

Learning Objectives:

• Enhance collaboration among different employee types to foster an inclusive environment within our schools.
• Identify how each key stakeholder in a particular case could be more culturally competent and/or address the situation in the most appropriate manner.
• Define strategies and practically apply them to situations involving cultural competence and return to campus with practical ideas to use in his/her campus.
