Increased social accountability across the health professions must address not only in program, but at selection. Professional organizations (i.e., AAMC) have recommended the selection of applicants with superior personal characteristics, using situational judgment tests (SJTs), in addition to measures of academic ability (GPA and MCAT). Psychometrically strong academic measures often disadvantage applicants from diverse populations. CASPer, an online SJT screen for personal characteristics, has evidence of reliability and predictive validity. Of GPA, MCAT and CASPer, it is the most effective in promoting diversity (paid employment before 18, females and Under Represented in Medicine) amongst applicants to professional training.
