East Carolina University College of Education and School of Dental Medicine collaborated to create a Certificate in Education and a Teaching Institute—created by dental educators for dental educators. This workshop uses Pratt’s model of teaching adult learners (yes, our students) emphasizing application in dental education. Learn about roles and responsibilities of teaching adults, explore yourself as a learner and your student learners, understand the learning context in which you teach, and gain better understanding of basic ideals and values that influence your teaching. These are fundamental elements needed to effectively prepare our students as next-generation providers.

Learning Objectives:

• Define your role and responsibilities as a dental educator.
• Describe the circumstances that frame your teaching and your students’ learning including the factors and histories that might help or impede learning.
• Explain the underlying beliefs and values that influence your teaching.
