Educational Programs, Workshops, Seminars, New Idea Session, and Small Group Discussions
John Sexton, J.D., Ph.D
President Emeritus of New York University.
A set of trends in the United States and the world are transforming the higher education landscape and upsetting the traditional ways in which academics have operated. We will discuss these trends and investigate the changing notions of academic leadership in this context, using as examples various experiments in creating new academic structures tailored to a globalized world (including the creation of New York University’s global network university). We will discuss the challenges and opportunities these examples illustrate, and the ways academic leaders generally can profit from the lessons learned. Finally, we will turn to the often neglected topic of expanding access to higher education to all who deserve it.
