TL-007 - Collaboration of Basic Scientists and Clinicians Through Online Modules

Collaborations between basic scientists and clinicians can be challenging due to the traditional departmental silos found in many dental schools. Professors from the Schools of Medicine and Dentistry worked together to produce video modules that integrated physiology course content with clinically-relevant dental scenarios. The presentation will demonstrate how software programs can be used to easily create and edit videos from PowerPoint presentations, webcams, or clinic videos. Attendees will be involved through active-learning breakout sessions, in which they will brainstorm potential topics for online modules, discuss pitfalls of the learning technique, and create a plan for implementation into their courses.

• describe the importance of integration of basic science and clinical content in the dental school curricula.
• recognize the potential benefits of clinical scenario modules, while also being aware of the common mistakes or issues that instructors face during creation.
• build the basic skill set needed to create and implement clinical scenario modules in their classroom.
