Resident, Small Animal Surgery

Dr. Chi-Ya Chen is a third-year resident in small animal surgery at Washington State University, she is originally from Taiwan and earned her veterinary degree from National Chung-Hsing University in 2006. She continued pursuing her master’s degree focusing on canine mammary tumor and graduated in 2008. In 2014, she completed The Program for the Assessment of Veterinary Education Equivalence (PAVE®) at Colorado State University and obtained the license to practice in the United States. She completed her rotating internship at Mississippi State University from 2014-2015. On the quest to pursue her interest in small animal surgery, she did a research fellow in the VALT (Veterinary Applied Laparoscopy Training) lab at Washington State University, focusing on simulation training in minimally invasive surgery. She completed a surgical internship at Prince Edward Island from 2016-2017, before joining WSU as a resident. Her surgical interests include reconstructive surgery, minimally invasive surgical techniques and skill training.
