Dr. Jon Frederic Dee a small animal practitioner, surgeon, author, consultant, and lecturer has devoted much of his time to the diagnosis, classification, and treatment of racing greyhounds. Dr. Dee has specifically studied orthopedic injuries of the hock. In 1966, Dr. Dee received his degree in veterinary medicine from Auburn University. He was a teaching intern at Washington State University, and in 1974, earned a master’s degree in surgery while at Colorado State University. Dr. Dee is a partner and staff surgeon at the VCA Hollywood Animal Hospital in Hollywood, Florida. Dr. Dee’s research in the pathogenesis and repair of injuries has been praised for its contribution to improved prognosis for all companion animals and sporting dogs with these injuries. Dr. Dee has shared his research findings with the veterinary community through numerous textbook and journal articles, national and international lectures. He has been on the editorial review boards for Veterinary Surgery, Journal of the American Animal Hospital Association and the Journal of Small Animal Practice. In 1982, Dr. Dee was appointed adjunct professor in the Department of Clinical Sciences of The Ohio State University, is a Courtesy Clinical Professor in the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences, University of Florida, from 1991 to the present. In 1986, Dr. Dee received the A.V.M.A. Practitioner Research Award in recognition of outstanding accomplishments in veterinary medical research by a practicing veterinarian. In 1991, Dr. Dee received the A.A.H.A. Practitioner of the Year Award, Southeast Region. Others include honorary ESVOT membership and the 2016 recipient of the ACVS Foundation Legends Award. He is Co-editor of the textbook Canine Sports Medicine and Surgery. Most importantly, however, Dr. Dee enjoys fly-fishing and grandkids.
