2019 ACVS Surgery Summit
Sponsored by IMEX Veterinary, Inc.
Open to Technicians' Only
This laboratory is an overview course on the principles, uses, application, stocking, and maintenance of external skeletal fixation (ESF) in companion animals. The laboratory will provide an overview of the classifications of ESF devices, possible applications, and how technicians can assist in their application, maintenance, cleaning, inventory, and assisting with problem solving of complications. A brief (30-45 minute) lecture will be followed by hands-on building, placement (plastic bone models) and breakdown of linear, ring, and hybrid ESF devices. Plastic bone models will help recreate actual application of these devices in the clinical scenario. Following the placement of ESF to simulated bones, the participants will be guided through correct bandaging principles for patients post-ESF application.
