Lameness is a clinical sign. The history of the development of an inertial sensor-based method of lameness detection and evaluation for equine veterinarians will be briefly presented. Analysis of data from the measurement of lameness in thousands of equine cases over the years has provided information relevant to the diagnostic workup of horses with lameness. Lameness variability, the effect of activity (lunge, under saddle) on the display of lameness, significance of the change in lameness after blocking, and associations of the type of multiple limb lameness to eventual localization of the foci of lameness will be presented.
