Patient Care & Best Practices
Although medication-assisted treatment is effective for treating OUDs, non-opioid substance use continues to adversely impact maternal and infant outcomes. This presentation summarizes study among pregnant women with OUDs (N=206) grouped according to opioid use only and opioid and cocaine use. Groups were compared on demographic variables, substance use, and maternal and infant outcomes. Comorbid substance use among pregnant women compromises maternal and infant outcomes. MAT programs must employ innovative programming to address polysubstance use in this population.
