Patient Care & Best Practices
In Dual 'Heroin-Cocaine Use' (HUD/CUD) Disorder patients, with co-occurring adult ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder), the Self-Medication Hypothesis plays a fundamental role in the aetiopathogenesis. These patients may use cocaine to reduce inattentive symptoms. Unlike adult ADHD with non-opioid Substance Use Disorder, the use of stimulant medications in our patients showed a better clinical outcome along with their Agonist Opioid Treatment. The global improvement reported could be derived from the stabilizing effect of the opioid medications.
