Opioid Abuse as a Public Health Crisis and Overdose as an Epidemic
Building upon previous research, we developed two MAT educational modules. A brief measure assessed knowledge and attitudes (K-A) toward MAT medications. K-A scores were significantly (p<.05) lower for agonist medications than for extended-release naltrexone (XR-NTX) and were similar to those reported in our 2013 nationwide survey of drug courts. K-A scores improved directly after viewing but declined to baseline levels 3 months later. Buprenorphine referrals increased (2.6% versus 9.7%; p<.05). Recruiting and sustaining judges' participation represented a limitation.
