Norman J. Betts, DDS, MS is currently an Adjunct Associate Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. He graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Batchelor of Science degree from the University of Michigan (1982), where he played starting tight end for the football team. He was a two time Academic All-American, was also named academic All Big-10 and scholar athlete by the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame. In addition, he was honored with a NCAA post-graduate scholarship. Dr. Betts gradulated class Valedictorian from the Universithy of Michigan School of Dentistry (1986). He completed his residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Michigan Medical Center, simutaneouslyt earning his Masters of Science degree in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He served as an Assistant Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania form 1990 until 1996, functioning as the departmental director of research and residency program director from 1993-1996. In 1996 Dr. Betts was named Associate Professor and Chairman of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey- New Jersey Dental School. He also served as Chairman of the UMDNJ Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Program at the DVA New Jersey Healthcare System, East Orange, New Jersey and as Chief of Service of the Department of Dental Medicine at UMDNJ- University Hospital. In
1999 Dr. Betts accepted the position of Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery/ Hospital Dentistry at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. He also served as the chair of Hospital Dentistry in the University pof Michigan Health System. Since 2002, Dr. Betts has been in private practice in Ann Arbor and Chelsea Michigan.
