Dr. Julie Chavez is a founder and owner of Northern Star Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, PLLC, Before starting her own practice in 2009, Dr. Chavez worked in group private practice from 2000-2008. She enjoys all aspects of oral and maxillofacial surgery and treating all age groups. She has special interest in orthognathic (reconstructive jaw) surgery, cleft palate rehabilitation and dental implant surgery and has been a member of the Cleft Palate Team at Children’s Hospital and Clinics in Minneapolis since 2003. Past appointments have included part-time teaching positions at the University of Minnesota Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Hennepin County Medical Center Department of OMS. Over the years, she has developed a keen interest surgeon ergonomics, fitness and wellness. Promoting and sharing this knowledge has become a passion.
Dr. Chavez grew up in Golden, Colorado and attended the University of Colorado Boulder where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree. She then obtained her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Washington, Seattle in 1993, and then completed a general practice residency at Denver General Hospital. She began her oral surgery training with an internship at the New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center and is a 2000 graduate of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery training program at the University of Minnesota.
She is board certified and a member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Dr. Chavez also maintains membership in the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the Minnesota Dental Association, Minnesota Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American Dental Association and the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association. She currently maintains hospital privileges at Children's Hospital and Clinics of Minnesota, Minneapolis and Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, Minnesota.
