Bernard J. Costello, DMD, MD serves as Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Dean of the School of Dental Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Costello is a fellowship qualified pediatric cleft and craniofacial surgeon with 18 years of experience in the management of cleft lip and palate and complex craniofacial malformations. He serves as a senior surgeon on the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Cleft and Craniofacial Disorders Team. In addition, Dr. Costello has serves as an advocate for team-directed care in the management of facial clefts and is currently President of the American Cleft Palate Craniofacial Association and a Past-President of the American Academy of Craniomaxillofacial Surgeons. Dr. Costello also serves as a Director on the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He has published numerous peer reviewed articles, book chapters, and other publications related to regenerative medicine and craniomaxillofacial surgery. Dr. Costello has been a primary investigator and/or co-investigator funded by the NIH/NIDCR, NSF, OMSF and the DOD for his work in the areas of craniomaxillofacial regenerative medicine, material science, and reconstructive surgery.
