AANA was founded at a time when individual attacks regarding legality of nurses administering anesthesia were mounting. Since that time, there are many examples of how unity and member engagement served as the foundation of many victories and as the cornerstone for building a strong AANA. Despite a decline in member engagement, there is an opportunity to draw on these historical achievements to unite the profession and continue to defend and expand our practice rights. An AANA with membership that is engaged and ready to propel the organization forward in challenging times in the evolution of the anesthesia workforce and the ever-changing US healthcare industry.
