As the anesthesia care experts, most CRNAs have had a lightbulb moment at least once in their career but the idea for an invention is a long way from fruition. In this lecture, the CRNA will be introduced to the complicated world of innovation and invention where the patent application is just the beginning. CRNAs must be aware of non-disclosure agreements, employee contracts, the FDA process (including 513g, DICE, 510K) engineering basics to develop CAD drawings, regulatory affairs consultants, quality managers, prototypes and biocompatibility. The process also includes financial considerations and marketing. It is critical to know where to find resources to guide the process. This lecture will provide the overview a CRNA needs to start on the inventor's journey.
