Staff Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist
Beaumont Health System
Dr. Cindy Farina is a staff CRNA who currently works at Beaumont Health System, Royal Oak, Michigan. She earned a Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Nursing Practice degrees from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and is a proud graduate of the Oakland University-Beaumont Graduate Program of Nurse Anesthesia, where she received her Master of Science in Nursing. Cindy has a strong interest in wellness issues that impact nurse anesthesia practice, including stress management, burnout, incivility, substance use disorders, and, of course, sleep deprivation and fatigue management in anesthesia practice.
I am an experienced staff CRNA who has been in practice for over 20 years, and currently work in a suburban teaching hospital. I earned my Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Nursing Practice degrees from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and Master of Science in Nursing, Anesthesia Track, from Oakland University-Beaumont Graduate Program of Nurse Anesthesia. Aside from clinical practice I serve as chair of the Michigan Association of Nurse Anesthetists (MANA) Wellness Committee Chair, member of the AANA Health & Wellness Committee, and co-chair of the Education and Research Committee at my place of employment. I have a strong interest in wellness issues related to nurse anesthesia practice, particularly stress management, burnout, and the hazards of sleep deprivation and fatigue. I am committed to educating fellow CRNAs and SRNAs through my committee work. As such, I have been invited to deliver wellness lectures to two Michigan nurse anesthesia programs. As chair of the MANA Wellness Committee, I have initiated a series of wellness speakers to our state meetings. Topics have included substance use disorder, critical incident management, mindfulness based stress reduction, and sleep deprivation. I am a firm believer in the benefits of regular exercise and spending time outdoors as healthy ways to reduce stress. My preferred forms of exercise include running, biking, and group fitness classes. My hometown of Oakland Township, Michigan, offers several opportunities to spend time in natural settings with its well-developed trail system and nature programs offered by local park services.
