Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) pathways and protocols are gaining in prominence and use in clinical practice. One of the key perioperative features of most ERAS pathways is the minimization of opioid utilization. To accomplish this goal, a variety of pharmacologic modalities can be employed to decrease perioperative opioid utilization. This session will explore the pharmacologic modalities associated with ERAS pathways, the attendant anesthetic implications of those agents, and the evidence for utilization of ERAS-associated agents.
