Pediatric and Obstetrics
Sugammadex has been safely used in European countries for many years but has only been FDA approved for use in the U.S. since December 2015. Sugammadex is not FDA approved for patients less than 17 years of age. And while there is abundant literature on the use of sugammadex in adults, there is very little available literature specifically on the use of sugammadex in children. Therefore, anesthesia practitioners may be hesitant to administer sugammadex to their pediatric patients. This presentation includes content related to the pharmacokinetics, risks and benefits related to the use of sugammadex in children and a summary of the current evidence and ongoing research on this topic.
