Explore behind the scenes of the Louisiana State Museum's costume and textile collection, considered one of the finest and largest in the United States with over 40,000 objects related to carnival, costumes and accessories, and textiles. Led by the museum's Curator of Costumes and Textiles, participants will focus on carnival masking and costume design, discovering how processes and traditions have evolved throughout history. Following this tour of collections storage, the group will move to the historic Cabildo and Arsenal in Jackson Square for a hands-on workshop led by local costumer Elizabeth Zibilich. While snacking on king cake and coffee, participants will create their own costume pins, using historic designs from the collection as inspiration.
