Come join us for the day as we travel up the Mississippi River Road and visit Evergreen Plantation, a National Historic Landmark, with 37 buildings, of which 22 form the only complete slave village in existence. The plantation also includes the Sorapuru Homestead, the site of a future living history museum about the free people of color. We will have lunch under the live oak trees. At the end of the day, we will sit around a table, drink coffee, eat homemade pralines and pecan pie, and discuss these questions: Whose stories are these? How do we tell them? How will the future be affected by the way we tell the stories?
Jane Boddie is the Director at Evergreen Plantation and one of the team at the Sorapuru Homestead project. She will be your guide on the bus.
Bus will depart from Convention Center at 8:00 AM.

Accessibility
The Sorapuru House and all 37 buildings at Evergreen are listed buildings. The Evergreen Research and Interpretive Center and the first floor of the big house at Evergreen are accessible to those with mobility issues. Service animals are not restricted on either site. We will provide a link to a virtual tour of the inaccessible spaces at both sites that that may be used enhance their visit. Someone will be assigned to assist anyone that needs assistance. All food and discussion venues will be accessible to everyone.
Guests should wear comfortable clothing, closed toe walking shoes and bring a camera, notebook & pen, sunscreen and Umbrella.
