Preview the Louisiana Children’s Museum new facility in City Park, scheduled to open in fall 2019. Enjoy a guided tour and learn how the new museum came to be, from the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina through the integrated design process that helped bring the revamped mission to life. Get an inside look at the holistic approach that artfully weaves vision, sustainability, and play for an immersive visitor experience.

Accessibility
The Louisiana Children’s Museum’s new building is fully compliant with ADA requirements. The building has two levels and all areas are accessible via elevator. Service animals are allowed. The primary construction phase of the project will be complete for the building and site, so hardhats and safety equipment will not be required.

Guests should bring closed toe shoes, a camera, and weather-appropriate clothing & accessories.

Learning Objectives:

• Describe the entire timeline of a capital project from the initial idea for a new facility to its Grand Opening. This includes redefining your mission, selecting a site, selecting the design team (both Architecture and Exhibit Design), the Design Process and Construction.
• Define the process of Integrated Design and how it can help your facility become an embodiment of your mission and enhance the visitor experience. For LCM, this holistic approach focuses the decision making process on vision, play, learning and sustainability as expressed through the building, site, exhibits and graphics.
• Identify potential sustainable design strategies to implement in your current facility or upcoming capital project, which will improve their organization’s environmental footprint. Using LCM as an example of sustainability for new facilities, attendees will also learn about strategies for existing facilities as well.
