The group will board transportation and travel to the New Canal Lighthouse Museum and Education Center. There they will be oriented to the wider organization as well as the museum itself, and be given a tour of our Coastal Learning Lab education center and lighthouse exhibition space. Emphasis will be given to the ways in which we have worked to create the feeling of a real coastal science lab aimed at elementary school students in a former gift shop space and the ways in which we try to break down complex environmental issues for different age groups. The group will then re-board the bus to travel to our Urban Marsh Project at the Mouth of Bayou St. John. En route to the marsh a guide will provide a history of the lakefront on the bus during the two mile transit. Since its establishment by the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation in 2013, our urban marsh has served as a highly enriching outdoor classroom, and attendees will learn about the challenges and rewards of our marsh and lighthouse based service learning and field trip programs while discussing the environmental history of the bayou and its relation to the history of New Orleans. Attendees will then re-board the bus and return to the convention from Bayou St. John.
