The Multipronged Field Trip: Ecology and History Indoors and Out

Travel to the New Canal Lighthouse Museum and Education Center and take a tour of its Coastal Learning Lab education center and lighthouse exhibition space. Learn how staff have worked to evoke a real coastal science lab and break down complex environmental issues for different age groups. Then, visit the center’s Urban Marsh Project to learn about this enriching outdoor classroom.

Bus will depart from Convention Center at 9:00 AM.

Ticket price: $25.00

Coffe, water, and soft drinks will be provided.

Accessibility
The New Canal Lighthouse Museum and Education Center is fully accessible, with a lift to the raised lighthouse exhibit and multiple accessible restrooms. The Lakeshore Drive bridge provides an accessible vantage point for discussing our urban marsh project and outdoor education programs.

Personal sun protection is recommended for the Bayou St. John portion.

Learning Objectives:

• Learn about solutions to logistical challenges involved with offering field trips and learning opportunities at two outdoor locations
• Learn about the creation of a hands-on coastal science lab for elementary students in a former gift shop space.
• Learn about aspects of New Orleans geography and ecology not seen by most visitors to the city.
