Designing exhibitions in historic buildings and nontraditional gallery spaces presents challenges for curators, collection management professionals, visitor services staff, and preparators. Strategies for working in difficult spaces and utilizing their assets are best learned through experience. The Historic New Orleans Collection has been presenting exhibitions in historic buildings for half a century. Join team members as they introduce two exhibitions and discuss the challenges and techniques used to design such displays.

Located in historic buildings within an historic neighborhood, THNOC prioritizes accessibility and ADA standards. All of the spaces included in this excursion are ADA compliant. When appropriate, THNOC exhibitions include subtitles, transcriptions and direct person-to-person engagement via visitor services staff to maximize accessibility. Service animals are allowed in gallery spaces.
