Enjoy a morning of spectacular ceremonial attire featuring narrative beadwork, feather art, ancient percussive rhythms, and narrative dance! Experience the mystique and allure of a truly unique New Orleans cultural phenomenon at the Donald Harrison, Sr. Museum. The morning presentation will include a music lesson, participation in an original theatrical production and a private docent tour of the museum’s current exhibition.

Bus will depart from Convention Center at 9:30 AM.

Learning Objectives:

• Recognize the narrative beadwork styles on display at the Donald Harrison, Sr. Museum and the contributions of the Harrison Family in the areas of education, music, film making, art creation and advocacy
• Appreciate the unique role of resistance to oppression had in the development of indigenous cultural expressions of African Americans in the New Orleans area.
• Enhance their understanding of the role of women in the unique Carnival Day masquerading tradition that uses original narrative beaded images, chants and percussive music. Queen Reesie will present an excerpt from her original theatrical musical show, "If You Don't Like What the Queen Says..."
