Community Engagement & Impact
In this session, team members from Brooklyn Children’s Museum’s Education department will share the development process of the newly-launched ColorLab--a family art-making space and studio rooted in the works, processes, and cultures of Black artists and artistic movements. ColorLab is powered by the shared intentions of diverse BCM constituents who invest in shaping and sustaining authentic, inclusive, and responsive spaces and programs. The BCM team will share insights about: the evolving intentions for ColorLab; the sourcing of and integration of feedback from educators and families; the participation of BCM team members of diverse roles and backgrounds; the commitment to authenticity and integrity, and the endeavor of developing a process-oriented, reflective studio practice which has led to larger institutional shifts in participatory space and program development. In this interactive session, participants will also have the opportunity to explore best practices and challenges and will co-create forward-thinking approaches to apply in their own communities.
