Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, and Inclusion
Museum education, and museum field trip education, should be for everyone. Museums must combat their historically white, elitist and privileged beginnings to make inclusive educational experiences a reality. To create a field trip for all students requires intentionality, cultural humility and collaboration. Inclusion and accessibility in cultural institutions should be considered and prioritized at every step of the process, especially as it pertains to school groups. From simple language shifts to overhauling programmatic content, four educators will share challenges, resources and practical changes that can be made to enable social, physical and cognitive engagement from all learners.
