Digitizing collections has become a standard practice for libraries, museums, and archives. But while there are clear technological possibilities for 3-D cultural artifacts, there have been no guidelines for creating these digital files. In 2018, Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) began a pilot project to establish 3-D digitization and metadata conventions that could serve as a launchpad for standardizing digital collections nationwide.
