Manager of Social Media and Digital Engagement

Lanae Spruce leads the WEBBY and Shorty award-winning digital engagement team at the National Museum of African American History and culture. In her role as Manager of Social Media and Digital Engagement and Acting Web Content Manager, she works to bring participatory experiences to the Museum’s virtual visitors. Through social campaigns like #HiddenHerstory and #APeoplesJourney, the team highlights the American experience through the African American lens.
Spruce focuses daily on building the museum's social media presence to foster learning, creativity, and shared discovery—as a means to transform our understanding of the African American experience, American history, race and modern society.
A proud graduate of the Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications at Hampton University, she has over 8 years of experience in the digital field.
Having worked with companies like LivingSocial, the National Retail Federation Foundation, and Bad Boy Entertainment on social media strategy, digital customer experience, and web and blog content management.
Her expertise includes digital strategy, content development, online community curation and influencer engagement. She has an interest in Black Twitter, inclusion and equity, technology, race and social justice.
