Vice President Learning
The Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University
Jacquie Genovesi has a PhD in Educational Leadership and is the Academy’s Vice President of Learning. She has worked in the department since 1991 and has dedicated 25 years to developing, implementing and evaluating informal education programs and exhibits. She is a long-standing partner and Co-PI of the Philadelphia Informal Science Education Collaborative (PISEC) projects. The last PISEC project CLUES (Communities of Learning for Urban Environments and Science) helped to train community-based mentors to become informal educators and increased access to STEM education for low-income families. The CLUES ambassador model and partnerships developed through the 25-year project serve as the foundation for the new Discover! Play! Share! project highlighted in this AAM session. She was recently appointed Team Captain for Academy’s role in iPAGE, the Science Museum of Minnesota’s leadership program, “Developing a Model for Broadening Participation in Informal STEM Institutions”. Her research specialty focuses on out-of-school opportunities in STEM for under-represented populations. Including providing strategic leadership for the nationally recognized Women in Natural Sciences program that was the recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Mentoring. She loves to play outside and lifting logs to see what's under them is one of her favorite activities while hiking.
