This workshop will discuss and give an opportunity to practice assessing and locating anatomical structures and their variations. In partners, aligning the anatomical landmarks associated with success and failure of mandibular local anesthesia technique will be taught. No actual injections will be done.
The neuro-anatomy and histology of the pterygomandibular triangle will be reviewed to help enhance the understanding of the complexities of the conventional inferior alveolar block and its associated lingual and buccal nerve blocks. After a thorough assessment and demonstration of the pros and cons of the conventional inferior alveolar block, the Akinosi, and Gow-Gates mandibular blocks will be visited and then practiced in a “mixed” or hybrid approach. Multi-tasking supplementation with infiltrative and advanced techniques combined with other tips and tricks will be landmarked on each participant. Infiltrative approaches to mandibular molars also will be discussed and practiced. Maxillary quadrant anesthesia will be explored via the maxillary V2 block.
