There is a growing popularity in the use of cannabidiol (CBD) and other cannabis products in the United States. Sale of CBD has more than doubled from 2017 to 2019, climbing from 358 to 813 million dollars in sales. To date, few studies have examined the health effects of CBD outside of its use in epileptic patients. Furthermore little is known of the extent to which individual’s milieu or the present cultural climate influences CBD use behavior. The overall aim of the present study is to identify CBD use behavior including methods of use, reasons and barriers to use, and knowledge and popularity of use as well as the social environment and health of the individual users as it relates to cannabidiol use. To accomplish this, content analysis of Reddit, an online social media forum, was conducted as well as an online survey. Content from Reddit was downloaded through pushshift.io and coded utilizing a team of researchers. Utilizing this data to inform content, the present study will recruit, through online advertisement through various social media websites, 500 participants (CBD-users). The study will examine the impact of CBD on their behavior and perception of health outcomes.
