Ethical Oracles, examines climate change predictions for the Florida peninsula, analyzing the ethical prescriptions, or the “what should be,” undergirding narratives of “what is” and “what will be” within visions of shared future landscapes of rising ocean waters. Global warming predictions are more than abstract numbers set into graphs or far-off scenarios rendered by scientists. Rather, as they are created and circulated, different groups in diverse positions of power use these predictions to make assessments for how people should live together, how people should consume, who or what matters most, and who or what is vulnerable in the face of rising seas.
