The most rapidly growing field within anthropology is applied anthropology. But what, exactly, do anthropologists bring to the table in efforts to solve some of the world’s most pressing problems, and how might these skills translate into actual employment opportunities for anthropology majors? Likewise, what tensions, concerns, and challenges do undergraduate anthropology majors experience as they think about their future academic and career goals and employment needs. As a student who was enrolled in the course described across this panel, in this paper, I reflect on my own personal experiences and challenges collaborating on our larger class project to shed light on these types of questions. I particularly focus on how we, as student researchers, came to identify what we saw as relevant, what administrators identified as relevant, and how this has impacted my own research trajectory and career goals and concerns.
