Since the Cuban Revolution to the date, artists have played a central role in re/mediating "shifting obligations of care" between the state and its socialist citizens and between citizens themselves. As the Cuban socialist model is "updated" once again, I explore the political work done by artists in affectively re-orienting person's expectations of "caring" and "being taken care by." How is state's care re/imagined and re/constituted through their artwork? How is the "living ideology" (Gordy 2015) of the Cuban revolution kept alive as the socialist state partially shifts its promises of care?
