When the current crisis in Nicaragua began in April 2018, Seattle University and the Universidad Centroamericana (UCA) had a thriving partnership of student exchange, collaborative research, and co-teaching. Since then, our partnership has deepened in terms of solidarity and advocacy. This presentation draws on a recent 2019 field stay and interviews with Nicaraguan college students, professors, and administrators to unpack the challenges facing higher education in Nicaragua at this time and the limits and potential of inter-university solidarity across borders.
