Group Flash Presentation Session
Abstract: Providing for others is not limited to material exchanges, nor to material beings, nor even to what one might normally understand as exchange. Whether in terms of bedside care for an ailing loved one or altar-side tending to ancestor spirits, or a host of mediums (and types of mediumship) in-between, this flash presentation invites experimental attempts to catch a glimpse of that which pulls people’s attention and motivates actions of care. To what are people obligated? How and why? What are care recipients’ obligations to receive? What are the consequences of refusal? From deference to deflection, from burden to gift, from petition to projection, we hope to explore various continuums of “care” in a variety of contexts, seen and unseen.
