Aid Through Trade, begun in 1993 by a former Peace Corps Volunteer, is a founding member of the Fair Trade Federation. Now it is one of the leaders in the fair trade fashion industry with 150 female artisans in Nepal. More than half of the artisans are located in remote SW Nepal. They are Tharu, the indigenous ethnic group of the once malaria-ridden flatlands of Southern Nepal. Aid Through Trade designs all of its jewelry including award-winning necklaces and its signature piece, the original Roll-On® bracelet.
