The present study reported on broad measures of temperament in deaf/hard-of-hearing toddlers as compared normal hearing controls. Parents completed the short form of the Early Childhood Behavior Questionnaire (ECBQ) temperament scale. The Effortful Control subscale, which is a composite of attentional focusing, attentional shifting, cuddliness, inhibition control, and low-intensity pleasure differed amongst groups, suggesting that children with pediatric hearing loss display early disturbances in social, emotional, and behavioral adjustment in areas closely related to executive functioning skills.
