Implantable Hearing Devices (IHD)
Instructional Level: Intermediate
This study measured speech-in-speech recognition in child and adult cochlear implant recipients and in age-matched children controls with normal hearing. Across conditions the masker was either two male talkers or two female talkers, and the target talker was either matched or mismatched in sex to the masker talkers. The results indicated that, while children and adults with normal hearing benefitted from a target/masker sex mismatch in both maskers, the benefit was stimulus dependent for children and adults with cochlear implants.
