Implantable Hearing Devices (IHD)
Instructional Level: Advanced
The patient population receiving benefit from cochlear implants has chaged greatly in recent years, with more adults and children receiving cochlear implants (CIs) despite not meeting FDA indications. Such patients are doing well with CIs, particularly when they are able to combine acoustic and electric hearing. We will review patients commonly overlooked for CIs, such as those with asymmetric hearing loss, Hybrid/EAS candidates, children who meet adult but not pediatric criteria, and adults and children with single sided deafness.
