Are audiologists keeping up with the advances of genomics that affect hearing, balance and tinnitus? Surveys of clinical audiologists from 2007 through 2018 show little growth in the proportion of audiologists who are comfortable with genetics in a clinical setting. We will review the potential impact of advances in genetics on audiological practice, explore ways to develop the needed attitudes and skills, and consider how to use this specialized knowledge to differentiate audiology services and build patient trust.
