Implantable Hearing Devices (IHD)
Instructional Level: Advanced
Traditionally, adults with cochlear implants (CIs) are assessed with speech recognition measures to evaluate performance. Hearing-related quality of life (QOL) measures may be a useful complement to provide a comprehensive view of benefit in communication environments. This study examined the relationship between outcome measures and the Njimegen Cochlear Implant Questionnaire (NCIQ). Several measures correlated with NCIQ total score as well as numerous subscales and subitems, indicating that these items may be more sensitive to speech and environmental sound recognition performance.
