Economic analyses (Census Bureau’s American Community Survey ) found 14% of the population would fall 1.0X below the poverty line to purchase a hearing aid ($2,363) and 61% would have to spend more than 3% of their income. 16% of those with hearing loss would fall 1.0X below the poverty rate and 75% would spend >3% of their annual income. Age, gender, race, educational attainment, and geographic region also impacted odds of experiencing affordability issues with hearing aids.
