The ocular vestbular evoked myogenic potential (oVEMP) measures utricular and superior vestibular nerve activity when a high intensity stimulus is presented to the ear. Normative data addressing effects of aging on the oVEMP, and the vestibular microphonic (VM) subcomponent, is lacking. We investigated how aging affects the oVEMP and VM in condensation and rarefaction polarities using a recently established belly-tendon montage. Analysis showed oVEMP/VM amplitude decreased as age increased, a finding that contributes to evolving clinical usefulness of the oVEMP.
