Currently there is considerable interest in quantifying listening effort. Objective behavioral dual-task measures are preferred over subjective as they are more consistent and reliable. However, dual-task procedures are complicated and time consuming and therefore are not used clinically. Current subjective questionnaires used in the clinic regarding real-world communication and hearing aid benefit have few listening effort related questions. Here we modified the Auditory Lifestyle and Demand Questionnaire (ALDQ) (Gatehouse, Elberling & Naylor, 1999) for a detailed examination of listening effort.
