An exploratory study was conducted to find patterns in various objective and subjective measures in patients (n = 27) with self-reported hearing difficulty and clinically normal audiograms. Measures included the Speech, Spatial and Qualities of Hearing Scale (SSQ), the Noise Exposure Questionnaire (NEQ), high frequency audiometry, and tinnitus self-report. Of these measures, SSQ scores were substantially outside norms. Therefore, the SSQ may be useful in validating self-reports of hearing difficulties for patients in this population.
